Duke Lax to Banking?

finnerty.jpgFrom the Not-So-Funny Department:

One of the aspects of the Duke lacrosse scandal (which seems to be taking up ever more real estate on the Drudge Report) that's been the subject of much gossip in our Duke alumni circles is speculating about what happens to the players long-term if everyone is found innocent and the people whose mugshots have been circulating throughout the media are still household names. Our informal polling indicates that they'll all end up on Wall Street, with little or no negative repercussions. Several are--or were, before the aforementioned events--not surprisingly, slated to start i-banking jobs after graduation. Also: the father of Collin Finnerty, one of the two players who were arrested, is Kevin Finnerty (left), a former JP Morgan MD who ran mortgage-backed securities there and was on the board of the Bond Market Association, which, if our nepotism theory holds true, seems relevant. The possible exception: the kid who sent out the apparently ironic email referencing American Psycho. Informal polling indicates that he's probably screwed.

The guy who sent that email is seriously screwed. Whether an inside joke or a quasi-serious fantasy, it's way too much information. Google will not be this kid's friend.

Aw come on! Nepotism is all over the street. It's practically a traditon. Hank Paulson has a nephew (Tim) at Goldman Sachs. HP has also helped out numerous other relatives. How else do you think his son Merrit made it into HBS?

Venerable firm Bear Stearns has a strict anti-nepotism policy I believe. Of course Bear is different than many other firms. You may recall that Ace Greenberg once told the employees to cut down on the use of paper clips.

Nepotism on the street is an issue, but it's a fact of life. Do you fault (insert WASPy name) for getting into Princeton because he's a legacy and working at Goldman because his dad's an MD there? You really can't. The kid's still gotta perform for the most part. He may not get canned, but the writing will be on the wall pretty quickly if he can't perform.

Isn't DOOK ugrad, the #1 feeder school at GS?

Perhaps he can start a strip club and prostitution pro-blog. He's got the chops, he's got the experience and "poledancerist.com" is still available.
