Lucy Gao's Birthday in Pictures
Lucky Lucy Gao, the Citigroup intern whose birthday party invite launched a thousand forwards, has now earned her own thread on the Oxford Gossip site. (Which we last visited during the bottled banker affair.) There's the usual snide comments habitual to the Oxford gossipers but the real prize is a set of pictures supposedly taken at the birthday bash. Lucy looks to be having a lovely time so presumably everyone showed up at exactly the quarter hour assigned to them.

Hi Fellow Citigroup Interns,
Just to clear a few things up, now that it is seriously getting out of
control, it was suppose to be an internal joke between me and a couple
of my guests to my 21st Party. The actual party was great, and nothing
like it so please do not worry. I should not have used my Citigroup
email account in the first place so I apologise for that.
I am sorry if you found the content of the invitation details offensive
and I am glad to entertain. But please stop now because it is getting
really unprofessional and unnecessary, and a lot of you know me anyway
and have heard about this so I apologise for repeating this again, but
hopefully for the final time.
Cheers everyone and have a great time this evening.
See you soon.
Lucy

At first glance, this strikes me as post facto rationalizing. It's what she would say after her original email. But we're open to the possibility she did mean it all as a joke.

Ladies and Gentleman,
Welcome the new Ms. Peter Chung. Follow the Fight Club Rule. 1st Rule of being Analyst, Don't talk about being an analyst. You just ruined an offer.

A JOKE? Lucy, i'm sorry, but you are full of shit. it's going to take some serious convincing for me to believe that that was a joke. have your friends step up to bat for you, and i'll reconsider.

honestly, even if you're a control freak. nobody writes an invitation like that. it probably was just a joke gone horribly wrong.
