It annoys the fuck out of me that McCain is honest enough to admit he's no economics expert. That just gives Obama the perfect soundbyte to to play over and over, when it's not like Obama knows jack shit. If he did, maybe his wife would have a more nuanced understanding of business than thinking there's the "moneymaking industry" and the "helping-people industry."

@ guest 9:31: "Obama may not know much about economics but he knows more than John "I'll give you a gas tax holiday to reduce gas prices" McCain."
Someone beat me to this, but nothing beats these chestnuts:
"I'll raise taxes on oil companies to make them lower their prices and increase supply."
"I'll create jobs and make America more competitive by raising taxes on business of all stripes."
And, from the Charlie Gibson debate:
"I don't care if raising the cap-gains tax means less revenue for my social programs, I will do it anyway."

I'm lovin' the Australian fill-in for Erin Burnett. Melissa Lee just don't cut it.

Vanity Fair is a serious publication? The most recent issue has an article, apparently not tongue-in-cheek, claiming that the political press has a "man-crush" on John McCain and is openly hostile to Barack Obama.
"Washington Post reporter Dana Milbank wryly noted the clashing contrast in hospitality accorded to McCain and Obama when they spoke before the nation’s newspaper editors in April: "The putative Republican presidential nominee was given a box of doughnuts and a standing ovation. The likely Democratic nominee was likened to a terrorist."
Only a nightly guest on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" could say that with a straight face.

I still don't get the relevance of Arianna Huffington. What does this bitch know about anything?

Someone here once said her BF is a high yield trader at Citi. That was like a year ago; if Citi dumped him then, sadly, I'm sure Erin did too.

"(the intolerable Keith Olbermann, the awesome Rachel Maddow)"
How does that make sense? She's pretty much Olbermann as a lesbian. Just like that guy Richard Wolffe (salt & pepper hair, trendy glasses) is Olbermann as a Brit. So, not only do his guests have to agree with him, they have to look like him, too.

Seriously, Joe...email me a draft of the OB every morning and I'll proofread it. I'm sure a hundred other Dealbreakers would volunteer as well.

# 88:
"No one is suffering more than the Palestinians."
--Barack Obama
Only, say, Ahmadinejad would say that, and even then not sincerely. The moral outlook that Obama's statement reveals should have torpedoed his candidacy, but instead it's a minor factoid.
You'd also think he'd have been eliminated after insulting about half the country, or even trying to relate to Joe Average by citing the price of arugula at Whole Foods, but at this point someone could find a dead hooker in Obama's trunk and it would mean one day of bad press.

Trish Regan is climbing the charts (mine, which mean nothing).
Margaret Brennan is a freaking dream to look at, so clearly there's a reason she's a bit player. I think the sad truth is that she can only read scripted reports (which are always the same anyway--retailers are hurting!) and can't improv.

How much less would college cost if they eliminated any bullshit department that wasn't around in 1950? (Computer science stays because it's an offshoot of math and engineering.) Not just that, but Western civilization might actually survive if our best and brightest didn't spend 4 years learning to despise it.

Something like a majority of Russian pregnancies end in abortion. Their army is approaching majority-Muslim status and pretty soon won't be taking orders from the Kremlin. And now their oil is worth almost 1/3 of what it used to be. They are way more fucked than we are.

P.S. We will totally lose our "less fucked than Russia" status if Bawney Fwank gets his way and redirects 25% of our defense budget to welfare checks. In a sane world, that sort of idea would be ample grounds for charges of treason.

1. See the point above about drones. They happen to be extremely useful for urban insurgency.
2. The Internet, GPS, all manner of advances in medical technology--products or by-products of Pentagon-funded R&D. What have *your* favorite government departments contributed to society?
